Give Your Hair And Scalp A Fresh Start With Dae’s Latest Launch (2025)

Between styling products, pollution and the natural oils on our scalp, our hair and scalp is exposed to a lot every single day. That’s why sometimes regular shampoo doesn’t cut it for leaving hair squeaky clean. When you truly want a spotless slate, turn to a clarifying shampoo. Dae just launched the Desert Detox Clarifying Shampoo to help your strands get a fresh start, just in time for a new year.

“Desert Detox was a no-brainer and something we have been working on for a while—it is the perfect addition to our signature wash care ritual,” says Alyssa Kobel, VP Brand Marketing & Creative, Dae. “We wanted to give our styling clients what they’ve been begging for. Now, everyone can style, detox and repeat!”

Designed to be deeply cleansing to remove buildup, the Dae Desert Detox Clarifying Shampoo is effective yet gentle because it doesn’t overstrip. “Of course it delivers everything you want in your clarifying shampoo: It removes dirt, excess oils, impurities and styling buildup, leaving your hair and scalp feeling extra clean yet incredibly soft, all while being non-stripping, non-drying and color-safe,” Kobel says.

“But here’s what Dae does differently: Typically, when it comes to a detox shampoo, it tends to be thought of as a chore or task in your haircare routine,” Kobel says. “We changed the game with Desert Detox! You simply can’t wait to reach for this bottle. The signature citrus scent is intoxicating, the crystal pink goop is stunning, the lather is so rich and luxurious. We want the steps in your beauty routine to be dreamy, even on detox day.”

Working a detox shampoo into your hair care routine is almost always a good idea. “Clarifying shampoos provide a deep clean for the scalp and hair by removing buildup, excess oils and impurities from styling products, hard water and environmental pollutants,” explains Temur, Premier Hairdresser and Owner of TEMUR, a salon in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. “Using a clarifying shampoo helps your hair feel lighter and cleaner. It’s good to use before treatments like keratin or when applying extensions because it ensures the hair and scalp are clean for the treatments to be more effective.”

Nearly everyone can benefit from using one, and Temur says that’s especially true for people with oily scalps and product buildup. “They’re helpful for maintaining blonde or light-colored hair because buildup can alter the tone and dull its vibrancy,” he says. “You can also use it after swimming to remove chlorine from your hair, helping to prevent brittleness, dryness and discoloration caused by the chemical exposure.”

But, those with virgin hair should proceed with caution because a clarifying shampoo can be too aggressive, Temur warns, potentially stripping the scalp's natural oils, causing dryness, frizz and breakage. A clarifying shampoo can be applied the same way as a regular shampoo. “However, it’s important to limit scrubbing time,” Temur says. “Excessive scrubbing can increase the risk of stripping natural oils. Scrub and massage with the clarifying shampoo for about 20 to 30 seconds, then rinse well.” Be sure to always check the instructions on the packaging before sudsing up.

The hero ingredient in the Dae Desert Detox Clarifying Shampoo is the brand’s Signature Desert Botanical Blend, which moisturizes, fights frizz, adds shine, soothes the scalp, strengthens and prevents breakage. “We used clean ingredients that are as purifying as they are gentle, and developed this formula with an extra rich, luxurious lather to give you that deep clean,” Kobel says.

It's best to follow a clarifying shampoo with a hydrating conditioner to restore moisture. “A deeply hydrating conditioner is ideal,” Temur says. “Since clarifying shampoos can remove natural oils and cause dryness, adding moisture back is very important to protect and nourish the hair.” Kobel suggests following their detox shampoo with the Dae Signature Conditioner for moisture and shine and Dae Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner “to detangle, tame frizz and add heat protection to your precious strands,” she says.

How often you should use a clarifying shampoo can be determined by a few factors. “That is really personal, because it depends on how oily your hair and scalp are, as well as how much styling product you typically use,” Kobel says. “Therefore, we recommend using Desert Detox Clarifying Shampoo about once a week as a general rule of thumb, or whenever you need a deeper cleanse. It’s such a great reset for the week, and you’ll be able to go longer between your detox and your regular signature shampoo.”
